A reading of the landscape, by Macarena Gross
A reading of the landscape is a working method through which Macarena Gross immerses herself in a specific territory. As a result of contemplating the place, walking through it, and observing it attentively, data, notes, plants, photographs, and intuitions are collected to give shape to an artistic reading of the place and its living and non-living beings.
This reading can be of a specific moment or of the annual cycle, in which case the landscape is explored during the four seasons.
Everything learned and collected serves as a breeding ground for the creation of one or several artistic works at the end of the process, as well as the generation of content in different formats, videos, photos, texts, poems, notebooks…
Projects carried out so far at Finca La Mina, La Lanchuela, Dehesa del Milagro, and El Locadar.
Macarena Gross Ariza is a photographer and researcher. Master’s degree in ‘Sustainable City and Architecture’ (Higher Technical School of Architecture of Seville), Master’s degree in Professional Photography (EFTI, Madrid). Her artistic work focuses on investigating the relationship between photography and other artistic media as an urban and awareness-raising tool. The relationship between nature, architecture, landscape, environment and mysticism are among the themes that interest her. Always in search of the new role of photography in contemporary art, her images arise from the intersection of different media.
